Any day now Peter Perret, Music Director of the Winston-Salem Symphony, will walk into a meeting of his staff and hand out copies of a long-awaited document: the list of works that the orchestra will be playing next year.
Like a stone dropped in a mill-pond the document will create a series of motions as each member of the production staff studies the list; and tries to estimate how they will tackle the enormous amount of work that needs to be done in order for the musicians to give a seemingly effortless performance on the day of the concert.
